Crosby Master Links

To support a variety of end-user operations, The Crosby Group offers rigging link products for the material handling/heavy lift industry. Customers can choose from master links, chain connectors, chain adjustment systems, and more. These products are designed and manufactured using the latest technology and forging methods – most of which were developed exclusively by Crosby. This allows the end user to build chain slings easier than ever.

A master link is a chain accessory that provides a convenient connection and disconnection of a chain without the need for a chain tool. In lifting, a master link is used when making sling assemblies and any number of rigging connections. It’s almost impossible for operators to get by without a collection of good links and connectors. They are designed to make lifting applications easier and more effective.

The Eliminator Chain Sling System

When loads are incorrectly rigged to the center of gravity, load control suffers and the lives of the workers and operators could be put at risk. The Eliminator chain system was designed and created to allow for the sling leg to be adjusted as needed. It allows the fabrication of 1, 2, 3, or 4 leg slings with adjustable legs.

Advantages

  • QUIC-CHECK® marks forged for overload indication

  • Optional S-4104N Latch Pin: When the sling is removed from the crane hook temporarily, this keeps the shortened chain in position

  • The design helps prevent bending when the fittings are against a curved object

  • The 2-piece design allows maximum flexibility

  • Available in five different sizes

  • Can accommodate more hook sizes

  • Only two fittings are needed to build a changeable sling (1 to 4 legs)

  • Easy assembly of triple and quad-chain slings

  • Use the Eliminator assembly with an oblong link to fit oversize hooks

  • All fittings are American-made

Using the Crosby Eliminator System

The Crosby Eliminator System combines selected features that include the functionality of a master link, a connector link, grab hooks, and adjustor legs. Rigging to the center of gravity for safe and effective use is now easier than ever.

This system provides a solution for operators that require an adjustable length chain sling. The key component of the system is its ability to allow the adjustment of the chain leg length by placing the chain where you need it in the connecting link.

How to Use It

First: Determine the maximum load that is going to be lifted.

Second: Choose the type of sling ideal for the load to be lifted. Remember to consider the angle of the sling legs in multiple-leg slings.

Third: Find the reach from the bearing point of the bail to the bearing point on the hook. Then, select the components, assemble the chain, and fix the identification tag to the sling.

Working Load Limit. This is the maximum load that should ever be applied to the chain.

Proof Test. This is applied to a new chain for discovering defects in the material or the manufacture. It is the load that the chain has undergone and can withstand.

Minimum Ultimate Load. This is the minimum load that a new chain will break when direct tension is applied to a straight length of chain at an unchanging rate of speed in a testing machine.

Attachments. All attachments used within congruent with the chain (hooks or links) should have a rated Working Load Limit at least equal to the chain.

Usage of Chain. Certain factors while using the chain and its attachments can be abusive and potentially lessen the load that the chain or attachments is manufactured to undergo. The following can possibly reduce the performance of the chain.

Factor Examples:

  • Twisting

  • Disfigurement

  • Deterioration by Straining

  • Usage

  • Weathering & Corrosion

  • Rapid Application of Load or Jerking

  • Applying Excessive Loads

  • Sharp Corner Cutting Action

  • On-symmetrical Loading Effects.

  • Excessive High or Low Temperatures (Normal operating temperature are: -40 to 400 Degrees)

  • Exposure to Chemically Active Environments (acids, corrosive liquids, fumes)

  • Alloy Steel

  • Quenched and Tempered

  • Proof Tested at 2 Times the Working Load Limit

  • Inorganic Zinc Finish

  • Certified to meet Charpy impact testing

  • Individually serialized and certification shipped with every link

  • Manufactured for use at -50 degrees

All COLD TUFF Master Link Products meet or exceed all requirements of ASME B30 26 including:

  • Identification Ductility

  • Design Factor

  • Proof Load

  • Temperature Requirements

Other Critical Performance Requirements Include:

  • Fatigue Life

  • Impact Properties

  • Material Traceability
